Sandblasting

The sandblasting is a processing method of roughing and cutting the surface of the spraying material by jetting the grinding material from the nozzle. It has been chiefly used for the  rust removing , cleaning of surface ,edge removing, preprocessing of platings, etc.

It became a name of sand blasting (explotion of sand) because sand was sprayed as an abrasive material in old times. Ceramic powder, glass beads, plastic powder of alumina (aluminum oxide)  and silicon carvide, are used  as abrasiive materials now.

There are a wet sand blast (wet blast) by jetting from nozzle mixing abrasives with water and  a dry sand blast (air blast) by jetting only  abrasives from nozzle by using air.The dry sandblast is classified into the blower blast that uses high-pressure blower and  the high-pressure air blast that uses compressor (generally called  air blast) .

Wet blast  dosen't generate static electricity so that water in surrounding of the abrasives may exist. It is possible to process it to feeling that  the surface is smooth so that abrasives hit the surface of the material though water compared with the dry blast. But processing abilities lower more than the dry blast.

The sandblasting was said that  it was designed first by B.C.Tilghman in the United States in 1870. The abrasives had been jetted by using steam instead of high-pressure air in those days. There are a directair pressure type and suction type. The directair pressure type  jets the abrasives from the nozzle by pressurizing  the abrasive tank and directly sending the abrasives to the nozzle with high-pressiure.

The suction type jets the abrasives from nozzle by drawing in the abrasives in the nozzle in using the negative pressure generated by jetting high-pressure air in the nozzle just like the general paint sprays.

Directair pressure type and suction type were divised more than 100 years ago by B.C.Tlighman.
